Welcome to this exciting lesson about the days of creation! In this lesson, you will learn about what God created on each of the seven days and why it matters. Get ready to explore how everything around us – the light, sky, animals, plants, and even humans – came into being through God’s powerful words.
Creation means making something new. In the Bible, the book of Genesis tells us that God created the world in seven days. He made everything, from the smallest grain of sand to the biggest mountain! Let's take a journey through each of the days and discover what God made.
"In the beginning, God created the heavens and the Earth. The Earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. Then God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light!" (Genesis 1:1-3)
On the first day, God made light. He separated the light from the darkness, calling the light “day” and the darkness “night.” This was the very first thing God made! Imagine a world without light. Everything would be dark, and we wouldn't be able to see anything!
On the second day, God said, "Let there be a space to separate the waters." He made the sky, and the sky was like a giant blanket over the Earth, separating the water below from the water above. God called this space the sky or the heavens.
Look up at the sky right now. Isn’t it amazing how it changes from day to night, from sunny to rainy? The sky is a big part of our world.
On day three, God gathered the waters together, so dry land appeared. He called the dry ground land, and the waters gathered together became the seas.
Then, God spoke again, and the land produced all kinds of plants and trees. Imagine all the beautiful flowers, tall trees, and delicious fruits – God made them all on this day! Think about your favorite fruit. God created that, too!
On the fourth day, God said, "Let there be lights in the sky to separate the day from the night." He made the sun to shine during the day and the moon to light the night. He also created all the stars to twinkle in the sky.
The sun keeps us warm and helps plants grow, while the moon and stars give us light at night. Can you imagine what the night sky would look like without stars?
On day five, God filled the sky with birds and the sea with all kinds of creatures. He made everything from tiny fish to big whales, and from small sparrows to majestic eagles.
Next time you see a bird flying or fish swimming, remember that God made them on this day! Isn’t it cool how there are so many different kinds of animals?
On the sixth day, God made all kinds of land animals. Think of lions, elephants, giraffes, dogs, and even tiny ants! God created every land animal, big and small.
Then, God created something very special – human beings! He made the first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve, in His own image. This means that humans are different from animals because we are made to be like God – to love, to think, and to care for others. God gave Adam and Eve the responsibility to take care of the world and everything in it.
On the seventh day, after all His work, God rested. He made this day holy, which means it was set apart as a special day. This is why we also take a day of rest, called the Sabbath, to relax and honor God for all He has done.
Even God rested, so it’s important for us to take time to rest and enjoy the good things He has made!
You might wonder why God created light first or why He made the animals before humans. The order of creation shows that everything God made had a purpose. He made sure the Earth was ready for humans by creating light, land, and food before He made Adam and Eve. God’s creation is full of love and care!
Think about your favorite part of creation. Is it the bright sun, the colorful flowers, the birds in the sky, or maybe the animals? Every part of creation shows us God’s love and creativity.
Now, think about this: We, as human beings, are made in God’s image.
Activity: Draw the Days of Creation
Grab some paper and colored pencils! Let’s draw something from each day of creation. You can draw the sun and moon for Day 4, animals for Day 6, or a beautiful tree for Day 3.
Be creative!.. Upload your drawing on the course notes section
In just seven days, God created everything we see around us: the sky, land, sea, plants, animals, and humans. Each day of creation was important, and God called everything He made good. He rested on the seventh day, reminding us that rest is an important part of life, too.
